Online Trauma Therapy in Virginia

From the outside, you look like you have it together. But inside, you feel like your life or relationship is incongruent with what you want.

  • Behaviors in your life and/or relationships you can’t seem to control

  • Persistent anxiety, depression, flashbacks, or general distress

  • Overall dissatisfaction in your life

These are often signs that something from your past or childhood is affecting you now.

(And if you’re not sure whether you have experienced trauma, distress is a good enough reason to reach out.)

Who I often work with

This is not an exhaustive list. If you like my approach but don’t see yourself here, please reach out regardless.

Individual Therapy

I work with adults of all ages, with a focus on supporting:

  • Political, government, intelligence, nonprofit, and international development professionals

  • People navigating family-of-origin issues, trauma, and relationships

  • New or expecting parents navigating the stress of pregnancy, postpartum, parenthood, or IVF

Couples Therapy

I work with couples and partners of all kinds, helping to navigate things like:

  • Infidelity

  • Communication and trust issues

  • Parenthood challenges

  • Premarital concerns

  • Nontraditional partnerships, such as polyamory challenges

How virtual therapy with me works

✔ You don’t need a “good reason” to come in—sadness, distress, or wanting to explore yourself deeper is enough

✔ I help you explore your past and become more aware of your patterns (the less obvious ones)

✔ You start to see the difference between who you had to become to survive vs. who you are and want to be now

✔ You’ll learn to have more compassion for yourself, letting go of old patterns that no longer serve you

✔ You’ll start to think differently, feel differently, and act differently— more in line with your current desires

More about me

Hello, I’m Claire Connolly, LICSW, a virtual trauma therapist serving professionals and new parents residing in Virginia.

So many of my clients are professionals with high-stress, high-visibility roles in DC who commute from Virginia…

….and/or new and expecting parents trying to keep it together while juggling high societal and family expectations.

My approach helps you explore your past to figure out the “why” behind your feelings, patterns, and behaviors, so you can become more conscious of them, develop self-compassion, and live more in alignment with who you are at the core.

I look forward to meeting you.

“Claire is a gifted psychodynamic clinician with a rare combination of depth, warmth, and rigor. She has a genuine gift for helping clients slow down and understand the roots of their patterns rather than just managing symptoms. Clients come to trust her deeply and experience lasting change from working with her—she's the kind of colleague I'd send my own family to.”
